Habits from the Prophet you should implement

Habits from the Prophet you should implement

Allah (swt) blessed us with the teachings of many prophets, but it goes without saying that the best example we have is our beloved Rasool (saws), not only because of the message he was able to spread despite all his trials, but also for all his legacy when it comes to mindful living and navigating this life the best way possible. Here are four of his lessons to cherish and implement everyday:

  • Be mindful when eating

We tend to over consume or not be fully present when eating, so here’s a reminder for us: Miqdam bin Ma'dikarib said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah (saws) saying: “The human does not fill any container that is worse than his stomach. It is sufficient for the son of Adam to eat what will support his back. If this is not possible, then a third for food, a third for drink, and third for his breath." (At-Tirmidhi 2380).

It is also recommended to follow the habits of Prophet Muhammad (saws) when it comes to fasting, as it both teaches us to truly appreciate the food we’re eating, but also has amazing health benefits. Rasool (saws) used to not only fast during Ramadan, but also every Monday and Thursday, as well as the 13th, 14th and 15th day of each Islamic month.

  • Pray Tahajjud

Out of all the Nawafil prayers we can start doing every day, there’s one that is particularly special and beneficial: Abu Huraira reported that Prophet Muhammad (saws) said, “Our Lord Almighty descends to the lowest heaven in the last third of every night, saying: Who is calling upon Me that I may answer him? Who is asking from Me that I may give him? Who is seeking My forgiveness so that I may forgive him?”. (Al-Bukhari 1145, Muslim 758)

Tahajjud held a very important place in the Prophet’s (saws) heart for a good reason: as someone who dedicated his life to his bond with our Creator and share the beauty of Islam, he never hesitated to sacrifice sleeping to praise Him, especially if it meant He was closer to us in distance, ready to cover us with His Mercy. Tahajjud might feel hard to add to your daily routine, but there’s surely a way to make it happen if you want it enough!

  • Protect animals

Just like we have a duty to take care of our beautiful nature, we must respect animals. This not only means taking care of an animal in need, but also, not harming them. Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “An ant bit a prophet among the prophets, so he ordered for the colony of ants to be burned. Allah revealed to him: One ant has bitten you and you destroy one of the nations that praise Allah?” (Al-Bukhari 3019, Muslim 22411)

  • Tell people you love them

Many people assume that saying you love them to someone, especially when you’re a man, is taboo or isn’t a sign of manliness. Well, Prophet Muhammad (saws) said: “When a man loves his brother, he should tell him that he loves him.” (Sunan Abi Dawud 5124) Let’s say Alhamdulillah for having been chosen by The All Mighty to be part of the Ummah of such a wonderful human being who truly was the light of guidance

May your heart always be rahat.
